Quotable Friday

Today’s quote comes with a little story.

As you know, my cousin passed away not long ago.  After unloading all of our belongings, we made the trip down to Brandon, Florida, on Friday.  We didn’t make it in time for the viewing, but we were able to go to the service on Saturday morning.  His passing has effected me greatly.  I’ve had a hard time posting things on Facebook unless it is in response to something his beautiful wife says.  The type of things I would normally post just seem so…petty-unimportant-stupid in the grand scheme of things.

So, we were driving down to Florida on Friday and after going through a crying spell (there were a few during the 12-hour drive), I grabbed my bible and prayed for the Lord to show me a verse that would help me.  This is the verse I opened up to:

Ecclesiastes 3

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

In that moment, reading this did help me.  However, I was reminded of how powerful HE is when at the service on Saturday, one of the first things the pastor did was read from this verse.  I thought to myself, “Okay, I hear ya.”  It reminded me that God does have a plan, but that it is okay to feel sorrow.  It healed my heart just a touch.  I continue to pray for his family and his children.  His wife keeps saying that she hopes she is making him proud by the way she has honored him and is living.  I know she will do great – she has a beautiful soul.
